It has been 5 days since the World Baseball Classic kicked off, but for most baseball fans, it is just starting. Games at reasonable times, played in America and featuring more prominent teams will be starting. Rather than watching Chinese Taipei take on the Netherlands at 5:00 in the morning, fans can enjoy the USA taking on defending champion Dominican Republic at 6:30 in the evening. However, that is not to suggest the first two round-robins weren’t exciting. WBC powerhouse Japan and longtime contender Cuba shone in group B while Cinderella Israel and star-powered Netherlands dominated Group A. The round-robin for the teams that advanced will kick off Saturday as Israel takes on Cuba.
Yesterday, the Dominican Republic opened up Pool C with a bang, routing Canada 9-2. Italy defeated Mexico in a shocking walk-off. They scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to win by a score of 10-9. This evening at 6:00, Chris Archer will pick up the start for the USA as they take on Colombia. The USA is heavily favored to win both this game and the tournament. Puerto Rico takes on Venezuela tonight at 9:00 in a matchup of two promising teams.
