Tennessee announced this week that a football series has been scheduled against the BYU Cougars. Tennessee has never played BYU on the football field, but the two teams will meet during the 2019 and 2023 seasons.
The first game between Tennessee and BYU will take place on September 7, 2019 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. The Vols matchup against the Cougars will be UT’s second game of the 2019 season, one week after their season opener against the Georgia State Panthers.
The second game in the Tennessee-BYU series will take place on ether September 1st or 2nd in 2023. That game will be played at BYU’s home stadium, LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. Tennessee has never played a game in the state of Utah.
Comparing the two football programs, BYU won their lone football national championship in 1984, compared to Tennessee, who has won 6 national championships all-time. BYU has also appeared in 35 bowl games, 23rd in bowl appearances. Tennessee has appeared in 52 bowl games, ranked 5th all-time. Tennessee has won 829 games all-time, 9th on the all-time wins list. As well as All-Americans, Tennessee has produced 337 NFL Draft picks, 8th best among college football. BYU has produced 140 NFL Draft picks, 64th on the list of most draft picks.
The Tennessee-BYU series should provide some interesting games to look forward to in the future.
