Sooners clinch berth to Elite 8 with win vs. A&M, preview for game vs. Oregon

Lon Kruger and the Sooners just reached their first Elite 8 since 2009 and Coach Kruger’s first in the 5 years he has been the head coach at Oklahoma. The 2 seeded Sooners defeated 3 seeded Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday night. Jordan Woodard had a game high 22 points along with 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Buddy Hield had his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Redshirt freshman Christian James had good production off the bench going 4-6 from 3 and scoring 12 points.
Tyler Davis had the best game for the Aggies going 7-8 from the field with 17 points and 8 rebounds. 4 of Aggies starting 5 this season were seniors, and they’re story ended Thursday night. Alex Caruso, Jalen Jones, Danuel House and Alex Collins are now done in Aggie uniforms.
The Aggies struggled from the field, only shooting 34.4%. They shot 54.2% from the free throw line.
Different story for the Sooners, had a worse free throw percentage at only 44.4%. But, the Sooners had a solid 49.2% from the field, an almost 15% increase from the Aggies’ percentage.
Oklahoma in Oregon will play in the west regional finals on Saturday night. The tip-off time is 5:09 CT.
Oregon opened as a 1 point favorite.
The Ducks are a very good team that can score very well. Dillon Brooks, sophomore forward is an elite scorer.
Tyler Dorsey a fantastic freshman, averages 13.8 PPG.
Dillon Brooks leads the team in points with 16.8 PPG, and also in assists with 3.1 APG. Senior forward Chris Boucher averages 7.3 RPG, and that is the best for the Ducks.

My prediction: Oklahoma 83-77

Oklahoma can win this game if they play like they did in their Sweet 16 matchup. When Oklahoma has Woodard, Hield and Cousins all clicking, like Woodard and Hield were against A&M, they can beat anyone. If the Sooners can slow down Tyler Dorsey and Dillon Brooks they will win and advance. It isn’t that simple, because Oregon is a really good team offensively. But so is OU, and I think Oklahoma could out score the Ducks on Saturday night. If the Sooners do win, it would be their first Final 4 appearance since 2002.
