In the World Baseball Classic, Puerto Rico claimed yet another W. After their ruthless shellacking of Venezuela in which the mercy rule was invoked, Puerto Rico came into the game a proven force to be reckoned with. Mexico was ready to rebound after a tough loss to Italy where they blew a 4 run lead in one inning. Puerto Rico jumped out to an early 5-1 lead with a series of scores featuring two Francisco Lindor home runs. Mexico rallied for 4 runs in the 7th, but were never able to tie it up. After Yadier Molina singled home two runs and Javier Baez homered for three, the Mexicans had a steep slope to climb. They didn’t score again, and Puerto Rico won 9-4. The loss knocked Mexico out of contention for the 2nd round. Puerto Rico takes on Italy on Sunday.
