A loss to LSU last week sealed the deal: the Mississippi State Bulldogs will not be in the College Football playoff. They would have had a tough time coming back from an upset at the hands of South Alabama. Now, they seek to get back into the spotlight after two crushing losses. They will look to start this against the Massachusetts Minutemen. UMass hung in a dogfight with Florida, and kept it close with Boston College. The Minutemen were able to put away FIU for their first win, and will look to upset Miss State for their second. If they want to win the game, their offense must score more than an early touchdown, and their defense must play all four quarters. They need to be off the field for a while, which the offense has failed to guarantee. To win, the bigger, stronger and faster Bulldogs will need to consistently move the ball against the scrappy UMass defense which has been able to throw a monkey wrench into even Florida’s powerful offense. They need to silence UMass early and let their superior physicality guide them to a win. A loss here would be crushing to the Bulldogs, seeing as they have already been upset by South Alabama, and knocked out of CFB contention for sure by LSU. UMass looks to play spoiler here. Mississippi State is favored 21.5 points as of Friday Night, and I say that UMass will beat the line.
