Diamondbacks claim Edwin Escobar off waivers

The Diamondbacks added a bullpen arm today, as they claimed LHP Edwin Escobar off waivers from the Boston Red Sox. Escobar, who was acquired with Heath Hembree by Boston in the 2014 Jake Peavy trade, had a 3.86 ERA in 3 games this season for the Red Sox’ AAA affiliate. Escobar posted down numbers in 2015, however, putting up a 5.07 ERA in 49.2 innings of work. Escobar is a former top-100 prospect in the MLB, and Arizona could fix him up to be the pitcher he was touted to be. To make room for the 24 year old lefty, the team designated 32 year old rookie journeyman Matt Buschmann for assignment.
