In the first full week of conference play, which Big 12 teams add to their win total?
Texas Tech 40, Kansas 21 – Fresh off a bye week, the Red Raiders enter this Thursday night game with plenty of focus. Winning through the air and on the ground, Tech outgains the Jayhawks by nearly 300 yards and hands Kansas their second straight loss.
Oklahoma State 33, Texas 31 – The Cowboys find themselves trailing by 10 halfway through the third quarter. However, Ben Grogan nails four straight field goals and the OSU defense shuts out the Longhorns the rest of the way to secure an impressive win at home.
TCU 27, Oklahoma 22 – The Horned Frogs’ defense comes alive, swarming after Baker Mayfield all night. Oklahoma’s star quarterback has his worst outing of the season, completing just 40 percent of his passes while throwing three interceptions. In a huge statement win, TCU secures a foothold over the Sooners at the top of the conference.
West Virginia 34, Kansas State 21 – Hungry for revenge from last season’s collapse in Manhattan, the Mountaineers blitz six or more players almost every down. The result is what they hoped for – double digits tackles for loss and a half dozen sacks. Bill Snyder has no answer for the defensive assault, and the Wildcats do not get to double digits on the scoreboard until halfway through the fourth quarter.
Baylor 41, Iowa State 35 – Coming off of a big time win vs Oklahoma State, the Bears find themselves falling asleep defensively. Lazard torches the Baylor secondary for nearly 200 yards receiving, and Mike Warren gashes the front seven for 130 yards on the ground. Ironically, it is Baylor’s defense that forces a turnover in the waning seconds to halt a Cyclones’ game winning drive.
