Breaking News: Chris Bassitt to have TJ Surgery

Breaking News coming out of A’s clubhouse today: Chris Bassitt will be having his first Tommy John surgery on Friday. Bassitt, 27, has a (0-2) record with a 6.11 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP in 28 IP. Chris Bassitt is coming off a terrible start, only going 3.2 IP giving up a whopping 7 ER.

Chris Bassitt was put on the 15-day DL on April 29 with a elbow strain. A later MRI revealed Bassitt had a partial UCL tear. He traveled to Cincinnati to get a second opinion, by DR. Timothy Kremchek, but he decided to have the surgery. Conventionally, Bassitt will have the surgery in Cincinnati, the location of DR. Timothy Kremchek’s office.

Bassitt was said to have a slightly elevated statistical risk of TJ surgery, according to the research of Bradley Woodrum, but I do not know how accurate the study is.

The only good thing coming out of this situation is the A’s have have plenty of pitching depth, and may sign another pitcher(Tim Lincecum).

Stay tuned for A’s news.
